| The term "closet" brings to mind a cluttered,
less than desirable view of disorganization. But things are changing. Getting organized
equates to an extravaganza of fittings and possibilities for the most typical of spaces,
the closet being no exception. From full-length windows and mirrored walls to custom
cabinetry and dramatic lighting, the closet of the 21st Century is a marvel to
behold. High-end homes are reaching unprecedented
size. It is not uncommon to see residences of 6,000 or 10,000 or even 15,000 square feet
being built for a single family. And some of us wonder, "Just how much space does one
person need?" but, we will save that as a topic for another day. As the saying goes,
"A place for everything, and everything in its place." Given the increasing
amount of space dedicated to master suites and spa-like baths, it only follows that
closets will not be left behind.
Closets have, in reality, come full circle
in the design. They seem more in keeping with the dressing rooms found in
castles, with every amenity for pampering and indulgence of the rich and
famous. Interestingly enough, the trickle-down effect translates into many
of these amenities and design details being desired in smaller, more
conservative homes, where they are actually needed the most.
