DESIGNS FOR AGING SF Mart CEU Seminar to Focus on Interior Design for an Aging Population

Plus, Extended Hours Present Opportunity for Later Shopping!

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Dec. 6, 2007 /San Francisco Mart/ -- The Age Wave is upon us, so it is imperative that both residential and non-residential designers understand the dynamics of the aging client. To assist Northern California design professionals with this challenge, aging design expert Drue Lawlor will present “The Aging Client” at the San Francisco Mart on January 17.

This insightful CEU seminar will present an overview of aging demographics, as well as the physical and cognitive challenges of aging that can be helped by design. Through a discussion of Universal Design and Aging in Place, you will learn how to alter your design approach to enhance the quality of life for the older person. The course will cover key design strategies such as Universal Design, space planning, wayfinding, acoustics, color, lighting/light, finishes, window treatments and furniture.

Drue Ellen Lawlor, FASID, is a certified interior designer in the state of California, where she specializes in design consultation for “aging-in-place”. In collaboration with her partner, Linda Smith, Drue founded education-works, inc., a professional development seminar group that develops and delivers programs and seminar for those in design-related professions.

Drue is an NCIDQ certificate holder and a Fellow of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). She is currently serving her second year as Chair of ASID’s Aging in Place Council and has served on the National Board, as well as serving as Chair of various ASID Councils. In addition, Drue has served as a Strategic Planning Counselor and an ASID National Trainer.

The seminar will be held in the SF Mart’s seminar room on the second floor. Admission is $25 for Mart members/ $35 for non-members until January 10; $35 members/$45 non-members after January 10. Select furniture and accessory showrooms will be open until 6 p.m., giving you a great opportunity to shop with your clients at their convenience! Extended Hours also enables you avoid commuter traffic while enjoying a complimentary glass of wine.
