Libby Dishes Secretes On How To Stay Warm and Cozy up Over The Winter

Libby's Tips on how to "Cozy-Up" your Home for Winter -

Ok, so you've finally tucked away the last Holiday decoration in your storage room, you're looking around your house and it just looks so bare...it also doesn't help that you realize there's still 3 months of cold wintry weather ahead! Well there are plenty of ways you can warm up your space and create a cozy feel and ambience that will have you craving the comfort of home sweet home!

- Paint your walls – If you're in the mood for a project, this is the best way to instantly transform your cold unfeeling room into a warm, inviting space. Choose a warm, soft yellow (Benjamin Moore – "Hawthorn Yellow" HC-4) to add a bright cheery feeling. You can also create a more intimate feeling by using bold, rich, dark color like a chocolate brown (Benjamin Moore – "Mustang " #2111-30) or a vibrant red (Benjamin Moore – "Raspberry Truffle" #2080-10). This will also freshen up the look of all the furnishings you already have!

- Hang Velvet Drapes – Velvet drapes give a feeling of luxury, they have a "weighty-ness" to them that creates a super cozy feeling. You can find them in home décor catalogues in tons of rich, dark colors and actually any color will achieve that snuggly vibe you're looking for...it's all about that great velvety texture!

- Add Candlelight – Add some nice scented candles and burn them! (so many people have tons of candles all throughout their house but they never actually burn them) Also, group together pillar candles in varying sizes and place them on a coffee table or dining table it adds great ambiance.

- Pillow Talk -Add warm throw pillows in fabrics like boucle', flannel, chenille and cable knit on sofas and chairs as well as snuggly throw blankets to sit under.

- Rearrange your Furniture – In most living rooms and family rooms the furniture is arranged around the TV but if you're lucky enough to have a fireplace rearrange your furniture to make the fireplace the main attraction. When you use the room it will feel homier because firelight will be glowing to get you through the winter. If you don't like the hassle of building a fire each and every time (or your fireplace doesn't work) you can place lots of fat pillar candles at different heights inside the fireplace to give you that same, soft warm glow!

- Bring in the Green – Cut some tall stems of flowering shrubs like forsythia, bring them inside and place them in a vase with water. They'll be tricked into thinking it's spring and start to blossom and add some beautiful color to your home!

- Soften up your floors – If you have lots of wood flooring, consider putting down some soft, textured throw rugs, they'll feel great underfoot and create a cozy vibe.

- Lighten up your Lampshades – Look around your home and if you have dark or opaque lampshades replace them with lighter shades like a white linen or silk shade, it will add more light into your room yet still have a soft, diffused quality. This is also a great way to update the look of any old lamps you may have!

- Wallpaper Wimsy - Wallpaper is a great way to bring in some texture and color into your room and give it a cozy feel! Many young designers are taking classic patterns and re-coloring them in a fresh new palette. The new formulas for easier application (and easier removal) are making the prospect of wallpaper less scary to homeowners – the days of steaming, scraping and peeling are over. If you don't want to wallpaper the entire room you can always choose just one accent wall to do like the wall your sofa is on or your bed is on. The patterns are still as diverse as they've ever been, and they come in every color combination and style you could possibly hope for – wallpaper is a license to have some fun!

- Drape your Bed – A fast and inexpensive way to cozy up your bedroom and give it the feeling of a quiet little haven is to hang two 96" drapery panels up to the ceiling on the wall behind your bed. You can choose any fabric you like, soft rich velvet, a bright silk or brocade...anything that will create a mood in your space just make sure the drapes are hung all the way up to the ceiling because visually it tricks your eye by drawing it upward and makes your ceiling seem higher and your room feel larger. When the spring comes you can change the fabric to something lighter or airier or just take them down all together! This is also a great solution if you don't have a headboard because it acts as an instant headboard!
