DENVER, Colorado, Apr. 15, 2008/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
ProLogis (NYSE:PLD) , the world's largest owner, manager and
developer of distribution facilities, announced today that it has
signed two new build-to-suit agreements with Crate and Barrel, one
of the nation's leading home furnishings retailers.
ProLogis will develop two distribution centers for the retailer in
Tracy, California, approximately 54 miles east of Oakland,
California. The first, comprising approximately 827,000 square feet
will be used by Crate and Barrel to store its furniture products.
The second, comprising more than 398,000 square feet, will be used
as a distribution center for its housewares products. To accommodate
its growing business and improve efficiencies, the retailer is
consolidating three Northern California distribution facilities that
it has outgrown.
"We value Crate and Barrel as a customer and are very pleased to
support their ongoing needs on the West coast," said Pat Cavanagh,
senior vice president and Pacific regional director for ProLogis.
"This region is emerging as an ideal distribution location for
local, regional and national supply chain networks."
The two new facilities will be built according to guidelines
established by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for
LEED Certification, the national standard for environmentally
responsible construction. Both distribution centers will incorporate
a number of sustainable design and construction techniques including
extensive use of recycled and locally sourced construction materials
and the installation of an energy-efficient fluorescent lighting
system.
"Not only was ProLogis flexible in providing new distribution space
that would accommodate our business expansion needs, they were able
to support our sustainability goals as well," said John Ling, vice
president, supply chain management and logistics at Crate and
Barrel. "We strive to be environmentally conscious in all aspects of
our operations and are delighted that our new distribution space
will parallel those efforts."
Crate and Barrel's two new facilities will be the first two
developments at ProLogis Park Tracy II, a 160-acre site in the Tracy
submarket of the Central Valley in California. At full build-out,
the park will include at least three buildings for a total of more
than 2.8 million square feet. ProLogis Park Tracy II offers
strategic distribution space with its close proximity to Interstate
5, Interstate 580, Interstate 205 and a Union Pacific rail line.
Crate and Barrel is one of the nation's leading home furnishing
retailers with more than 160 stores in operation across the United
States and in Canada. The retailer offers a comprehensive line of
upscale glassware, flatware, housewares, accessories and furniture
products.
