A $10.9 million project, the Pompano Beach Middle School renovation will consist of a state-of-the-art television production suite, music & band classrooms, culinary labs, physical education fields, brand new air conditioning systems.

The Pompano Beach Middle School award follows other successful Cubellis projects for the School Board of Broward County, including AC Perry Elementary School, Harbordale Elementary School, Deerfield Beach High School, and Colbert Elementary School.

TV Studio to Anchor Communications & Broadcast Arts Magnet Program

The television studio will be the center of the Pompano school's Communications & Broadcast Arts Magnet program, providing more opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. School staff visited local television stations with a goal of designing and modeling their studio after the professional facilities used by the South Florida media.

Scope of work: Remodel Building #2 to a TV Production Suite, remodel Building #3 to music and band classrooms; remodel Building #4 to art, technology, and family and consumer science labs; remodel existing PE spaces in Buildings #5 & 6; replace roof throughout campus (except for new buildings); replace existing DX system with chilled water system; repair other points of water intrusion around windows and in stucco; build new running track, baseball field, two tennis courts, two basketball courts and equipment storage.

"Our entire staff and the local community are very excited about the expansion of our school," said Principal Sonja Braziel. "The combined efforts of the School Board, the city of Pompano Beach, and the design team and contractors are creating an environment that will continue to foster outstanding learning experiences for our students every day."

"Cubellis' Ft. Lauderdale office is proud to continue our trusted relationship with the School Board of Broward County," said Merrill Romanik, AIA, Principal of Architecture at Cubellis. "Our Academic team has consistently provided thoughtful design solutions, created inspirational learning spaces, and demonstrated total dedication to project demands. We're confident that will prove to be the best way to meet the needs of the school board and the children of Broward County once again."

Originally designed as Pompano Beach High School in the early 1900's, the site was rebuilt and named Pompano Beach Middle School in 1970. A major addition was provided in 1990 and the school currently houses more than 960 students.
