SAN FRANCISCO, July 29
/PRNewswire/ -- Today Dwell magazine is asking readers
to define what it means to feel at home in the modern
world through a just released contest entitled Design
Your Dwelling on Dwell.com.
Partnering with Google SketchUp, Google's 3D modeling
software, the Design Your Dwelling competition
challenges aspiring architects and design enthusiasts to
create a virtual model of their ideal home on a
predetermined site location. Each entry must take into
account climate, public access, and size constraints,
among other issues.
"The conversation is evolving every day regarding what
the ideal parameters of a modern home are," said Michela
O'Connor Abrams, President and Publisher of Dwell.
"Size, energy efficiency, and material choice are of
increasing importance and it will be fascinating to see
the way these attributes play against the enduring
principles of design. At the heart of Dwell, we are
always trying to define and redefine the modern home and
this contest will be a barometer showing what resonates
right now."
The grand prize winner will be flown to San Francisco
for an awards lunch at the Dwell headquarters, an
in-person tour of the design site, and an AIA / Dwell
architectural home tour. In addition, a physical 3D
model of his/her home will be created and displayed at
Dwell, and then gifted to the winner. Airfare and
accommodations will be provided by Dwell and Google
SketchUp.
"This challenge will be a fantastic use of 3D
creativity," said Aidan Chopra. "We are excited to be
bringing SketchUp users together to create these cutting
edge residential designs."
Designs will be judged on factors such as
sustainability, cost-efficiency, and interior and
exterior design by Dwell editors, Google SketchUp
experts, and MIT professor and Dwell NextHouse architect
Joel Turkel.
All entries must be in by August 31st at 11 p.m. PST and
will be posted on Dwell.com by the end of the day August
31st, 2008. For contest details go to: http://www.dwell.com/googlesketchup
