IDCA
has formed to enhance the Interior Design Profession throughout Arizona.
With over 800 interior designers throughout the state impacting over $1
billion worth of commerce, the industry is evolving from a traditional
trade to a full-fledged profession. The IDCA recognizes this evolution
and seeks to protect the public health, safety and welfare through
intelligent regulation of interior design in the state of Arizona.
The IDCA is gearing up for Legislative Action in 2007 and wants to
continue to be a voice in our state government for years to come. We are
aiming to start recognition of our professional trade. Our voice needs
to be heard and be consistent in the years to come. It is vital that we
start our coalition now and start it strong.

"The health, safety and welfare of the public is significantly impacted
by the interior design of all built environments. Every decision an
interior designer makes, affects life safety and the quality of life in
one way or another. Some of those decisions include specifying
furniture, fabric, wallcoverings, and carpeting that comply with fire
codes and other building codes; designing ergonomic work spaces; space
planning that provides proper means of egress; and providing
barrier-free designs for the handicapped and other persons with special
needs. The public benefits from knowing that the individuals they
entrust with designing their interior spaces are qualified.
Legal recognition (registration or licensure) ensures that only
qualified individuals design interior spaces or represent themselves as
having the qualifications to do so. Legal recognition also establishes
enforceable standards of minimum competency, including education,
experience, and examination. Legislation helps consumers differentiate
the responsibilities and services of each of the design professions by
providing legal definitions of the scope of interior design practice and
who may refer to themselves as a “registered” or “certified” interior
designer." |

Our vision is to advance the interior
design profession in Pennsylvania by becoming the next jurisdiction to
achieve occupational recognition through professional regulation. IDLCPA
is dedicated to pursing the regulated practice of interior design
professionals; recognizing the occupation protects and enhances the
health, safety and welfare of people occupying interior space. - With
the help of Milliron and Associates, IDLCPA is submitting a bill for
interior designers the first quarter of 2007. Once the bill is
introduced IDLCPA will host informational meetings across Pennsylvania
to answer questions and work the grassroots effort. This bill (as
submitted) will not pass without a committed effort from designers. We
need all designers to get involved.
