American Academy in Rome
Fellowships in Design Art (Six-Month)
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in the field
of application. Applicants must also have been working in the field for
at least seven years and currently be practicing in the field.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens at the time of application. Fellowships
are available in interior design, industrial design, architecture,
landscape architecture, set design, urban design, urban planning,
conservation and historic preservation and graphic design. Application
materials are available upon request or through the Academy's website at
www.aarome.org .

GMI Offers First-ever Dorothy Collins Scholarship

Grace McNamara Inc. awarded the Dorothy Collins Scholarship award to
Ashley Hunziger, a college-student completing a double bachelor’s degree
in Interior Design and Pyschology. Awarded on merit, goals, and
accomplishments, the award celebrates the courage, determination, and
love of window fashions, representative of Grace McNamara’s own mentor,
design legend Dorothy Collins. Hunziger’s future goals include opening
her own custom furniture company, along with publishing a book on the

The Harold W. Grieve Educational Fund
and ASID, Los Angeles Chapter 2006 Scholarship Competition
Since 1995, the ASID Los Angeles
Chapter has awarded $43,000 in scholarships to eligible students.
Students will be asked to give a 15-minute presentation of a student
project of their choice to a panel of jurors. To be eligible, students
must have completed one-half of the requirements for a degree or
certificate program at an accredited educational institution and be a
current student member or corresponding member of ASID Los Angeles or
within Los Angeles County.

Joel Polsky Academic Achievement Award
(Designed to recognize an outstanding interior design research or
thesis project by an undergraduate or graduate student.) The ASID Joel Polsky Academic Achievement Award is given annually by
the ASID Educational Foundation to recognize an outstanding
undergraduate or graduate student's interior design research or thesis
project. Research papers or doctoral and master's theses should address
such interior design topics as Educational Research, Behavioral Science,
Business Practice, Design Process, Theory, or other Technical Subjects.
Entries will be judged on actual content, breadth of material,
comprehensive coverage of topic, innovative subject matter and
bibliography and references. To request an application, send a
legal-sized, self-addressed stamped envelope to the address above.
Entrant must complete the entry form and return it with the thesis or
research project to reach the ASID Educational Foundation, Inc. by March
9. Entries must be delivered, prepaid, in care of the ASID Educational
Foundation by March 9. The jury will meet to critique entries in the
spring. All entrants shall be notified of their status and the decision
of the jury shall be final. Entries will be returned upon request with a
$20.00 postage and handling charge. The Society reserves the right to
exhibit any selected entry for a period of two years.

Mabelle Wilhelmina Boldt Memorial
Scholarship
(Designed to encourage talented practicing interior
designers who wish to advance their professional development through
graduate study.) The ASID Educational Foundation/Mabelle Wilhelmina Boldt Memorial
Scholarship is open to students who are enrolled in or have applied for
admission to a graduate level interior design program at a
degree-granting institution. Applicants must have been practicing
designers for a period of at least five years prior to returning to
graduate school level. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of
academic /creative accomplishment, as demonstrated by school transcripts
and a letter of recommendation. Preference will be given to students
with a focus on design research. To request an application, send a legal
sized, self-addressed stamped envelope to the address above. Entrants
must submit the entry form and return it to the ASID Educational
Foundation, Inc. by March 9. All entrants must submit an undergraduate
college transcript and a letter outlining the reasons for pursuing
graduate education. The letter should include an explanation of the
specific research project that is planned. FIVE (5) copies of the entire
submission should be enclosed. A letter of recommendation from an
individual who is knowledgeable of the applicant's ability to complete a
graduate level research project should also be included. The scholarship
monies will be paid directly to the academic institution. Upon receipt
of proof of graduate degree, any remaining balance will be remitted to
the individual winner.

Rome Prize Fellowships
(Designed to
promote the study and practice of the fine arts; to aid and stimulate
the education and training of architects, painters, sculptors, composers
and other artists; to encourage the study and investigation of
archaeology, literature and history of classical and later periods.)
In general, all applicants for the Rome Prize fellowships must be
citizens of the United States at the time of application. (Permanent
Residents or individuals who have been residents in the U.S. for at
least three years at time of application may apply for the post-doctoral
fellowships in the School of Classical Studies. Please read carefully
the specific eligibility requirements provided below.) Undergraduate
students are not eligible to apply. Graduate students may apply for
pre-doctoral awards in the School of Classical Studies if they meet the
other criteria provided below. Winners of the Rome Prize may hold other
fellowships concurrently, as long as the requirements of such
fellowships do not conflict with the Academy's fellowship rules.
Applicants are required to disclose all fellowships and awards they may
hold during their proposed residency in Rome. The Academy may make
adjustments to the stipend awarded if substantial additional resources
are made available. Rome Prize winners may not hold full-time jobs while
at the Academy. Applications are available upon request or may be
downloaded from the Academy website at www.aarome.org. All applications
must be postmarked (at a government post office only) by November 15th.
Private meter strips are not acceptable. Only materials postmarked by
this date will be submitted to the juries (with the exception of
reference letters that are sent by the referees directly to the
Academy). Complete applications consist of: the completed and signed
application form; a current resume or curriculum vitae; a project
proposal as specified for each discipline; audio, visual and/or written
support materials as specified for each discipline; three letters of
reference (where required); and the $40 application fee (where required)
in the form of a check or money order made payable to the "American
Academy in Rome." Resumes, support materials and the outside mailing
envelopes or cartons must be clearly marked with the field of
application. The Academy does not keep applications on file from one
year to the next. All materials must be submitted in English. Please
note that eligibility and submission requirements differ for each field
as described below. Portfolios, slides, tapes and scores will be
returned only if self-addressed stamped envelopes are included. Written
materials will not be returned. Fellowships for independent work in
architecture, landscape architecture, historic preservation / conservation, graphic design, industrial design, interior
design, set design, urban design, urban planning, musical composition,
visual arts, history of art, classical studies, archaeology and
post-classical humanistic studies and modern Italian studies. There is
no formal application process for the Rome Prize Fellowship in
literature; members of the American Academy of Arts and Letters make
nominations for the award. Supported projects must be conducted at
American Academy in Rome facilities.

The Salt Lake Design Awareness Foundation Scholarships

The Theresa Bradley Spirit Award for Professional Interior Design: an
all expense paid trip for two to the Salone Internazionale Del Mobile in
Milan, Italy or the International Furniture Fair in Valencia, Spain.

typewritten communication describing their interest in studying interior

Yale R. Burge Competition
(Designed
to encourage students to seriously plan their portfolios.)
Open to all students in their final year of undergraduate study enrolled
in at least a three year program of interior design. Portfolio
components, submitted on slides, may be as few as eight but are not to
exceed twelve. These "Best of Work" components may include work as
diverse a lighting plan, graphic, sketch, furniture, or cabinetry
detail, paper flow chart, or life-cycle cost analysis presentation, as
well as the more usual furniture layout, color board, and perspective
rendering. Any one of these items equals one component. Any combination
of these components may be used but under no circumstance may the total
exceed twelve components. Judges will evaluate presentation skills,
design and planning competency, and conceptual creativity. To request an
application, send a legal sized, self-addressed stamped envelope to the
address above. Registration, $10 entry fee and entries must be
