SAN FRANCISCO, California, June 14, 2007 /San Francisco Mart/
-- With the unprecedented level of public awareness for the
environment, demand for eco-friendly goods has increased
enormously. As a result, home furnishings manufacturers are
responding with greener products. The San Francisco Mart is
providing a venue for these products in one of the most
environmentally-conscious geographical areas in the United
States during Live Green, Live Well, a sustainable design and
home furnishings show, which will be held at the Mart
September 19 & 20, 2007.
Live Green, Live Well will be the first trade and home show
solely dedicated to green furnishings and design. The show
will offer a full range of home furnishings products and price
points from established and emerging manufacturers that are
using greener raw materials and/or manufacturing methods.
Attendees will discover hundreds of innovative and practical
ways to incorporate sustainability into their design projects
and retail showrooms. With offerings from furniture,
accessories and art to floor coverings and small appliances,
attendees will come away with viable product resources and
ideas from displays, seminars and demonstrations.
Live Green, Live Well will take place in SF Mart’s two main
temporary exhibit areas: Green on 1 and Green on 2. The expo
will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19,
earmarked as the education day co-sponsored by the American
Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
on Thursday, September 20. Entrance to the exhibit hall will
be complimentary to all trade professionals. Fees will be
charged for all seminars.
“At the San Francisco Mart, we want to encourage designers and
retailers to enrich their own eco-consciousness, and that of
their clients and customers, by familiarizing them with green
products and practices,” reflects Roseann Carini, SF Mart
general manager.
“Compared with related industries, such as architecture and
building products, the home furnishings component is in its
infancy, yet demand is reaching an extraordinary level,
especially in Northern California,” Carini continues. “Our
designers have told us their clients are extremely eager to
find eco-friendly home furnishings. Live Green, Live Well will
help them discover products that align with their own and
their clients’ personal values and style.”
According to a recent AHFA survey, 76 percent of the U.S.
population believes it is important to purchase earth-friendly
home products, and 72 percent report they would pay up to 10
percent more for eco-friendly furnishings.
At Live Green, Live Well, exhibitors will have the
extraordinary opportunity to connect with
sustainability-minded professionals who drive the market for
products. Product categories for the show will include:
Architecture/Interior Design
Art/Wall Décor
Carpet/Rugs
Furniture & Accessories
Hardwood Flooring
Housewares
Home Accents
Juvenile/Nursery
Kitchen & Bath
Lighting
Mattresses
Paint and Wall Coverings
Soft Goods
Tabletop
Textiles
As of June 13, Live Green, Live Well exhibitors include:
Beronio Lumber, Brand Kitchens & Design, Ceramic Tile Design,
Decima Island Designs, Eco-terric, Falcon Waterfree
Technologies, Green Home Center, Gustave Carlson Design, Knu,
Liberty Valley Doors, NextEnergy, PermLight Products, Peti
Antk, South Cone, Sustainable Spaces, and the Sustainable
Furniture Council.
Show management will accept exhibitors based on an application
that requires manufacturers to state their company’s
environmental position statement, as well as list
environmental certifications, affiliations and memberships.
“To ensure the integrity of the show, we must consider a
manufacturer’s commitment to sustainability,” says Carini.
“While we would like every exhibitor to have certain
certifications, we can’t command that yet in this industry.
However, we expect that they will show evidence of their
long-term intentions.”
The Mart expects thousands of expo attendees from a range of
trade professions, including interior designers, retail
furniture and accessory buyers, architects, builders,
contractors, developers, design students, home stagers and
specifiers.
The San Francisco Mart is one of Northern California's premier
wholesale design centers. Built in 1937 as the home of the
Western Merchandise Exchange, the historic art-deco building
continues to serve as a home furnishings and home accents
center open to the trade only. Conveniently located in San
Francisco’s Civic Center area, the SF Mart is situated close
to freeways, public transit, major hotels, restaurants and
other attractions.
The San Francisco Mart is managed by a full-service, on-site
