According to the News Report, the decline in home sales is larger than had been expected and certain to underscore the problems in housing, which is in the worst slump in 16 years.

In addition, the National Associations of Realtors, reports that the index is at the lowest point since 2001, "Turmoil in the mortgage market is weighing on sales, as lenders pull back from riskier mortgages and some transactions are being postponed from mortgage market descriptions," stated by Association Senior Economist.
