Ricoh Multifunction Product Line Attains ENERGY STAR
Qualifications
100 Percent of Ricoh MFPs
Meet New ENERGY STAR Guidelines
WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Aug. 13
/PRNewswire/ -- In its continuing efforts to be a national
leader in environmental conservation, Ricoh Americas
Corporation today announced its entire line of multifunction
products (MFPs) qualifies to meet the new ENERGY STAR(R)
guidelines. This year, the ENERGY STAR program introduced
tougher restrictions on energy use, making it much more
difficult for imaging equipment to meet the specifications for
ENERGY STAR. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department
of Energy (DOE) that protects the environment by qualifying
and listing energy efficient products and practices.
In addition to 53 color and
black & white MFPs, Ricoh's entire line of five digital
duplicators and five wide format products also meet the new
ENERGY STAR guidelines. Energy efficiency compliance has been
integrated in nearly all of Ricoh's printers, production
printers and facsimile products.
Energy conservation is an
important element in today's office equipment. According to
the ENERGY STAR program, qualified office and imaging products
use 30-75 percent less electricity than their traditional
counterparts. Still, ENERGY STAR qualified products are able
to perform just as well as standard products. With such
features as power save modes and duplex printing capabilities,
ENERGY STAR qualified products can save users significant
amounts of money on their utility and operating bills. The EPA
and DOE estimate that products that meet the ENERGY STAR
specifications will save Americans $5 billion over the next
five years.
Ricoh is a charter member of
the ENERGY STAR program and has received numerous awards over
the years for its efforts, including the Partner of the Year
Award in 2000.

About ENERGY STAR
In 1992, the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) introduced ENERGY STAR
as a voluntary labeling program designed to identify and
promote energy- efficient products to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions. Computers and monitors were the first labeled
products. Through 1995, EPA expanded the label to additional
office equipment products and residential heating and cooling
equipment. In 1996, EPA partnered with the U.S. Department of
Energy for particular product categories. The ENERGY STAR
label is now on major appliances, office equipment, lighting,
home electronics, and more. EPA has also extended the label to
cover new homes and commercial and industrial buildings.
Through its partnerships with
more than 9,000 private and public sector organizations,
ENERGY STAR delivers the technical information and tools that
organizations and consumers need to choose energy-efficient
solutions and best management practices. ENERGY STAR has
successfully delivered energy and cost savings across the
country, saving businesses, organizations, and consumers about
$14 billion in 2006 alone. Over the past decade, ENERGY STAR
has been a driving force behind the more widespread use of
such technological innovations as LED traffic lights,
efficient fluorescent lighting, power management systems for
office equipment, and low standby energy use.
