PRESS RELEASE

Finally The Possibility To Mould Plastic Products Which Look Different…

JOENSUU, Finland, September 5, 2007 /Kareline/ -- “Finally it is possible to mould plastic products, which really look and feel different…Kareline composites” - said one well known Finnish designer. Many designers have been waiting for the development of bio-composites, such as Kareline®, with a more natural appearance to plastic products.

End products can now be designed from the viewpoint of usability and aesthetics – plastic raw material no longer limits the freedom of designers. In addition, the natural appearance of Kareline® material enables the designing of plastic products which look and feel appealing and very different.

3rd Generation Natural Fibre Composites

The Finnish company Kareline Oy Ltd is the first company in the world which has seriously commercialised natural fibre reinforced thermoplastics for easy injection moulding. Kareline will present the full product line during the K2007 fair in Düsseldorf at the end of October.

At present Kareline has the widest range of bio-composites available in the market. These materials are based on PP, PE, ABS, PS, POM and PLA plastics of a virgin origin. The natural fibre content varies between 20 to 55 weight percent.

High-quality plastics have been chosen to meet the highest standards of each application. The reinforcing fibres used are wood-based cellulose fibres manufactured in the most ecologically advanced mills in the world. Wood raw material used in the process is environmentally certified.

The Kareline® composite granulates can be injection moulded in all standard thermoplastic injection moulding machines and tools. This material has already been in use all over the world in a wide variety of different machines and tools.

The injection moulded Flaxwood electric guitar is a good example of the extreme requirements for customizing the Kareline composite material. Special properties are required e.g. for adjusting the acoustics and moulding the thick walls of the guitar body. www.flaxwood.com

Kareline® Natural Fibre Composite has turned out to be an excellent choice for drinking vessels - promoted under the brand name Kupilka. The aesthetics, pleasant surface feel and environmental friendliness of the material are key features for these kinds of products. www.kupilka.fi

The Fenron -window from Kareline® composite, represents an entirely new family of windows. The dimensional stability and possibility to mould massive parts without sink marks, together with the good thermal insulation properties, are important for Fenron. www.fenron.fi
