HAND - the feel of a surface or fabric
HAND-BLOWN GLASS - objects created by blowing and shaping glass by hand
HAND FORGED - iron heated and formed by hand, i.e. wrought iron
HANDICAP ACCESSIBILITY - allowing a handicapped individual to visit and utilize a building without assistance from others
HANDICAPPED - incapacitated, injured, or physically impaired
HAND-PAINTED GLASS - decorative glass, esp. English, which has been hand painted and leaded into a patterned glass window
HAND PRINTED - decorative surfaces applied by hand rather than machine
HANDRAIL - rail to be used by hand, installed as a support or guard on a balcony, staircase, porch, etc.
HAND-WOVEN - created by hand on a loom
HARDWARE - various materials, such as iron, brass, bronze, wood, chrome, plastic added to mechanize the operation of cabinetry drawers and doors, drapery, etc. i.e. cremone bolt, door knocker, drapery rod, escutcheon, handle, hinge, kick plate, knob, lever, pull, etc.
HARDWOOD - wood planks from a slow-growing tree, which is dense and strong
HEADBOARD/FOOTBOARD - plain or decorative boards or other materials used to create a headrest or end support on a bed, connected by side rails, i.e. carved wood, upholstered, iron, etc.
HEADER or HEADING - finished portion along the top of a drapery to accommodate a pole, drapery hooks, clips, etc. See ROD POCKET
HEADRAIL - horizontal bar housing blind mechanisms
HEALTHCARE - the care, treatment and management of illness by preserving physical or mental well-being. See CAREGIVER
HEARTH - fire-proof floor extending out from a fireplace into a room for fire protection
HEATHER - woven, multi-colored effect created by blending fibers of different colors
HEIGHT - in design and drafting this refers to the overall measurement from top to bottom of any object
HEM ALLOWANCE - extra fabric added to measurements to create a hem
HERALDIC - Medieval decorative motifs representing nobility
HERRINGBONE - fabric weaving technique created by alternating the direction in threading the loom to form a zigzag or "V" pattern. See CHEVRON
HIGHBOY - tall Queen Anne styled chest of drawers supported by legs
HIGH LOW - multi-level pile heights
HIGH-STYLE - any style, fashion or design considered most up-to-date, often costly
HOME - the primary residence of an individual or household used for shelter and place of refuge. See ABODE, APARTMENT, BUNGALOW, COTTAGE, DOMICILE, DWELLING, FARMHOUSE, HOUSE, LOFT, MANOR, MANSION, RANCH HOUSE, STUDIO, VILLA
HOME AUTOMATION - technological innovations and electronics pre-wired or retro-fitted into residential applications
HOME OFFICE - allocation of a specific residential space to conduct business
HOMESPUN - simple fabric with irregular, tightly twisted, uneven yarns giving a homemade appearance
HOME THEATER - electronic equipment system designed to create theater-quality images and sound in a home
HOSPITALITY DESIGN - interior design specialization for individuals with specific knowledge and skills for the professional hotel/motel/convention design market
HOT TUB - a large soaking tub, often made of fiberglass and/or wood with jets designed to hold several people
HOUNDSTOOTH -  small scaled, broken check pattern
HOUSE - structure built, independent of any other structure, to live in. i.e. living quarters. See ABODE, APARTMENT, BUNGALOW, COTTAGE, DOMICILE, DWELLING, FARMHOUSE, HOME, LOFT, MANOR, MANSION, RANCH HOUSE, STUDIO, VILLA
HUE - refers to an particular aspect of color i.e. Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, etc., based on the amount of light and wavelength across the color spectrum
HVAC - Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
